Ten miles used to far but the with the way the prices for hotel rooms keep rising, if you are a smart businessman or woman
I'm sure you can take full advantage of this.I mean we are staying at The Holiday Inn and it is almost $350 a night. That is insane and it has drove much of annual Saratoga contigent numbers way down. We have been doing this trip from Boston for the past 10 years and we used to fill up 5 rooms no problem. Now we are lucky if we can fill two this year. And everyone who has bailed all have cited the same reason. It's just way to expensive.

Yeah I've been lobbying for something like that for a few years now. When we started this trip Holiday Inn used to only be $225 and that wasn't too bad. But the core people of the group still want to keep staying at the HI because it does have the best location out any hotel, to the track and downtown with the two pools And back in the day it didn't matter soo much because we would cram 5 people in the rooms but now that everyone is getting a little older and have wives and such, privacy is becoming an issue and people don't want to spend that much on a room anymore. But yeah I hear ya, if you don't mind driving a bit you can stil find some deals. Hell I would love to go camping the State Park and do it that way.

I booked early (like last Oct) - season ticket holder at Sara for 20+ years..now live in Ca...travel back for Travers week.
Marriott Courtyard Saratoga $160/nt..I see now the rooms are like $450..maybe I should sell and take the profit? then I can parlay my profit into much bigger losses at the track! Some of the Hotel in Clifton Park are OK - like the Hampton & comfort suites - good location ..probably booked by now. |

I mean we are staying at The Holiday Inn and it is almost $350 a night. QUOTE] Why would anyone spend $350 a night to spend 8 hours in a room to sleep and take a shower? Last year I stayed at a rat hole called the Oak Grove in Burnt Hills about 20 minutes from Saratoga down Rte 50 south of Ballston. It was owned by Chinese and has been purchased by Indians in the off season. They have renovated it (it remains to be seen what the renovations actually are). When I made my reservation for this year I asked and was told that there no longer is carpet on the walls (something I had never seen before in motel decor). It didn't smell too bad. It is $67 a night for two double beds. There is a Stewart's within a mile. What more do you need? I curse my good pal for getting married about 10 years ago. My free lodgings went down the drain that day. |

For about 5 or 6 years I stayed at the Starting Gate Cottages, about a mile south of Exit 12 on Rte 9 in Malta. It was a great little place. Had 9 pine panelled cottages with AC, a little refrigerator, and a porch with Adironack chairs. Cost about $60 a night. Was owned by Mick and Maggie McDonaugh. Nice kids in their late 30s back then. Maggie fell on bad health so they shut the place down about 4 years ago.
