Off topic, but I've noticed (and hit) and a bunch of Contessa "Mud Calks" horses.

I don't even know what mud calks are or if I'm spelling it right, but its hit for me a few times, especially when Gryder was still in NY.

Contessa usually runs all of his horses with mud caulks on

They were money at BEL last fall, and the first part of the inner....Don't know if they've had a falling out since, or if his stable isn't what it was, but Alan Garcia seems to be getting the majority of the rides these days, and doing quite well on them.

Mud calks are small cleats that they add to the shoe for bite. Depending on the step of the horse, they may use quarter inch bended shoes instead.

Contessa uses them almost exclusively at BEL unless there is a reason the horse won't take to them.

The good thing nowadays is that all these stats are listed in the DRF. The combination of Contessa/Coa has won at a 16% clip in 2006-2007. The ROI with this combination is $1.56 for every $2.00 wagered. That means you would lose 22% on your money if you wagered on this combination every time in the last 1 1/2 years. The mutual take in New York is about 15% on WPS bets. That means that you would lose 15% on your money with the average trainer/jockey combination. Since you would lose 22% on your money with Contessa/Coa, that means that this has not been a good combination to bet on over the last 1 1/2 years. If you were an owner and had horses with Contessa, you couldn't complain about the Contessa/Coa combination over the last 1 1/2 years. Winning at a 16% clip is not bad. That is better than average. It's just from a betting perspective that the ROI is not very good with that combination.

I can't find any data on the Levine/Prado combo.
