Didn't Pletcher say something along the line of "this is the deepest I've seen the track..."

So I'm not sure what to make of final times of the Belmont workouts.

Send em' all. At least send AGS so I can assure myself a losing day by betting him.

What's interesting is the afternoon times are pretty normal this week, even though the workout times have been slow.

Buffy,
I agree with Pais on this.
Believe me, when I was first learning about this, I always considered workouts as well as beyers. Boy, did I learn!
Now if someone has a strategy for picking a winner in a MSW, or better yet, one that drops from that condition into a maiden claimer, that would be interesting to know.
DTS

I'd also like to know others thoughts regarding "temperment" being inherited.
I know Bold Rulers are notorious. The reason I ask is that I'm breaking Shot o Bourbon (2yo filly) this week. Her granddad is Deputy Minister, as is her half sister, Ciel Bonne who is a grandaughter of Dehere (sired by Deputy Minister).
Both are very "even", and comfortable with people. The ones that I have that trace to Alydar and Sectretariat...yikes!

Lets play 20 questions.

Speaking of workouts, Isnt this Curlin's third workout since the preakness? I am probably not correct, but isnt that unusual for a horse to do who has competed in the derby and preakness (in recent times). I mean he didnt win the Derby but still ran hard and finished 3rd, and had a huge race in the preakness in a record-tying time. Didnt Smarty Jones have just one workout in between the preakness and belmont? And funny cide had only one (huge blowout). How bout Afleet alex? Did he have zero works and just that strong 3 mile gallop before the Belmont.

So, Curlin has had three workouts. What Does that say about him? I think it means he's ready to rock and roll.

Antitrust,
I'm not an expert on this at all.
I'll just say that different trainers have different methods.
The main goal is to get the horse ready for the conditions, factor in distance and running style, and keep the horse fit (not hurt or too stressed).
H Allen Jerkens and Jim J usually put wind sprints in their mix close to race day. Others opt to go for longer and easier.
Again, I'm no expert. I'm trying to see what the successful ones do.
On a side note, I agree with you about Curlin. I'll watch what happens with Hard Spun. HS will need something to boost endurance, as a mile and a half is lots longer than his last when he struggled.
I don't know anything about how Digger is training up to this.
We'll see.
