Had to bring this thread back today as news comes of the passing of W. C. Heinz this past week at age 93 in Bennington, VT. I'm sorry that I did not take advantage of his proximity these last 10 years to meet him...

This is probably the fourth time I've read that story and each time, it seems likes the first. It's so well written that I don't even read the words anymore, it's become a moving picture in my mind, almost like I'm there in the group that huddles around the horse in his final moments... amazing writing.
