STS,
The only problem with your observation about the Heat, was the Diesel missed half the year. In the last few years I think we've grown accostomed to Shaq missing a lot of time, but being healthy for the playoff run. In fact they played pretty well without Wade, BECAUSE THEY HAD SHAQ. I think since Shaq was a Laker, he's never been on a team that has finished worse than getting to the conference finals until this year. I'm not shocked they lost the series, but I'm shocked that they got swept. Much credit to the Bulls.

But yeah, we'll find out by year 3 whether Miami passed on the next Marino or not. I don't mean that in the sense that Marino and Quinn are the same players by any stretch, but the best QB they could've had since Marino.

I think it's easily the Heat losing like they did. The Dolphins made the right move in my opinion. They are getting a player that will make an immediate impact and will contend for rookie of the year. Unless I'm wrong about Ginn. We shall see but I don't think anyone can say for sure whether a selection was a good one or a bad one until after they have played. The Heat, on the other hand, their fans have to be really disappointed. Not just because of the results of this year though. This was not a total surprise. Hell, I picked them to lose in the first round myself. The truth of the matter is that they were a fortunate champion last year. They never dominated but they came together when they needed to. But now, they've been really exposed. They have to make major changes in the off-season or else this scene is likely to be repeated. I love Wade but I fear that with his style of play, he's never going to be at 100% again. Shaq is a year older. Same thing for Walker, Williams, Mourning, Jones, and some others. This team was kept together for the purpose of giving it one more shot. That didn't work. Next year, they better do some things different. The Dolphins are closer to being contenders for a title in their league than the Heat are in theirs.

I'm not sure about Ginn. The issue with him, is seriously, HE WAS NOT GONNA GET DRAFTED FOR ANOTHER 5 OR 6 PICKS AFTER MIAMI IF THEY DIDN'T TAKE HIM. They should've tried to trade down. I'd say settle for less in a trade if you can move down, but then again Cleveland and San Fran gave away future 1st round picks to move up this year.

How do u know he wouldn't have gotten drafted till that much later? I mean, nobody expected Miami to take him where they did so there is a chance another team could have done the unexpected too. It's my belief that when your turn comes up, u take the player that u think is the best and go from there. I applaud Miami because they didn't do the safe thing but what they thought was the best thing.

Based on needs, if you look at who was picked in the 5 or 6 teams after, those teams got who they wanted. If the Dolphins drafted Quinn, I don't think the next 5 or 6 teams change their picks based on that. Not 1 WR was taken again until 17?

I'm not ripping the pick completely, it's just they should've tried to trade down. If he can combine that speed with some hands, intelligence, and a QB that can get him the ball lol (good luck Cleo Lemon), then more power to the Dolphins.

I think it's more than that. I go to about 10 games a year and aside from Wade and Shaq, when healthy, they just did not look good this year. Williams has definitely lost a step (or three) and was hurt all year, Alonzo didn't get any younger, Payton was just awful, Walker looked lost most of the time and, worst of all, neither Posey nor Haslem played nearly as well as last year.

Guys lke Posey, Kapono and Dorrell Wright would go from starting and playing 25-30 minutes to playing 5-10.

They were still a fun team to watch but they looked old and slow.
