NYRA gets Internet go-ahead
By MATT HEGARTY
The New York State Racing and Wagering Board on Thursday approved an in-home betting license for the New York Racing Association, allowing the association to take wagers over the Internet and "other communications devices," according to a spokesman for the board, Dan Toomey.

NYRA had been seeking the license since the New York legislature authorized Internet wagering operations last year. Although NYRA officials were not immediately available for comment, the association's officials have said that an Internet platform would be launched shortly after the board gave its approval to the program.

Under the law, only New York racetracks and off-track betting corporations can take Internet wagers from New York residents. NYRA has advertised that it will tie in its NYRA rewards program to the Internet platform. The program allows players to receive rebates on handle provided wagering hits certain thresholds each month.
