He had a couple of good rides on Zanjero. I realize Zanjero is slow, but he may get in there for the super.

He has a much better chance to be in the real super.....the super for 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th.

Or, perhaps you had a dream about this one too.

No... only the dream about the winner coming out of the 9 hole. You're safe, Andy.

As for Zanjero, there are slower horses in this field than him IMO.

don't forget Zanjero's unblemished record in graded stakes of finishing 2nd or third.

You really think so? Those last four spots are usually for tiring speed horses. I can't imagine he does much worse than 12th with his running style and I definitely think he could get up for 4th in the end with the right trip and a hot pace. Sedgefield, on the other hand, has absolutely no chance. Even if the race were on turf he wouldn't win it.

You're probably right, though he is so far behind many contenders that even his clunk up style is highly unlikely to land him in the super. It just feels like the best case people seem to be making for the plethora of bums being discussed for this Derby is " he can help fill out the super ".

I'm not high on the horse but think Julien had a heck of a lot better chance of clunking up for the super or fifth place with this horse than with Sedgefield. With Teuflesberg, Stormello, Liquidity, Cobalt Blue, Nochance Cat, and Storm In May in the field the bottom four superfecta is going to be a tough super to crack.

Personally I just don't get all the concern over who rides what horses. For the most part, the riders in the Derby are very good ( OK, Bridgmohan isn't and Jara sucks ), and the horses will do the job in spite of their riders. Most of these riders have little choice and the real choice some make is " do I take a worthless mount just to be in the Derby or do I seek better opportunities out of town ". Leparoux rides at Churchill, so he doesn't want to sit in the room, though after the race he will probably feel differently.
