training setback caused the drift in price....this aint a good sign.
from setanta sports Jim Bolger has brought the speculation regarding Teofilo to an end by confirming that the colt has suffered a training setback but remains on course for month's Stan James 2000 Guineas. On Monday betting was suspended on the opening Classic of the season after rumours began to circulate regarding the wellbeing of the ante-post favourite. The reports prompted punters to move for his main Newmarket rivals, including Dutch Art Following the lack of comment from the Bolger camp betting remained suspended overnight with most of the major bookmaking firms, with the exception of Ladbrokes. He was, however, reinstated as the 5-4 favourite when trading reopened on Tuesday morning. Prior to the betting activity Bolger had reported his star to be on course for Newmarket, but issued a statement on Tuesday confirming reports that the unbeaten son of Galileo had, indeed, suffered a setback. "Teofilo has had a training setback. When trotted yesterday afternoon he showed slight discomfort." the statement read. "As a result, his training will be restricted to walking and swimming for one week. "Otherwise, he is fit and well and on target for his 2000 Guineas tilt on May 5. "A further statement on his condition will be issued early next week."

Racing post.....
Teofilo's racing career is over, says Bolger by Martin Kelly . TEOFILO, last year's champion two-year-old and former ante-post favourite for the 2,000 Guineas and Derby, has been retired from racing. Jim Bolger's son of Galileo charged through his juvenile career to win all five of his starts, which included the National Stakes and the Dewhurst. However, he suffered a tendon problem shortly before the Guineas this spring and was ruled out of the Newmarket showpiece just 48 hours before it took place. Bolger had hoped to bring the colt back for a late-season campaign, but he has finally been retired. In a statement released on Thursday evening, Bolger said: "Following an unsatisfactory scan, it has been decided to retire Teofilo from racing with immediate effect. "Jackie and Jim Bolger would like to thank their staff who have worked tirelessly with great dedication, making every effort to return Teofilo to the racecourse. "They would also like to thank the many well-wishers who have taken such an interest in the past year. "They are most grateful to the sponsors of every prestigious race Teofilo won in his short but spectacular career, in which he was unbeaten and secured the coveted title of champion European two-year-old." |

Disappointing news, indeed.
As the weeks past with no news it looked more and more likely that this would happen, though.
