Phil Mushnick of the NY Post writes about this this morning. He's been on the Imus case for years.

Interesting...how this thread proved something.
When it started, someone said to not take offense. Then later, when the same someone thought I was taking a shot at him, he took offense (nevermind the unconnected name-calling). Then to defense mode. Yada yada yada. It only proved my point. Go back and reread this thread from the first page and you might see for yourself. Now, back to Imus...he'll be on Sharpton's radio show. He also wants to meet the Rutgers Women's BB team to apologize "face to face". My best guess is that if he had the opportunity to take back his words, he would. Unfortunately for him, it might be too late. Racism and sexism are not going to go unnoticed, and certainly not unchallenged. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/sleza...arol08.article |

I'm really outraged by Imus and sick of slick racist innuendo.
I'm also sick of BET and WB giving airtime to videos, music and tv shows that have black kids calling one another ho's and ni**as. These dumb kids are basically cr*pping on 300 years of black struggle in the USA to gain respect. What they've done is made these words and ideas mainstream. Now every white kid--or radio host, like Imus--is using those words to appear cool. Let's be honest--it's one thing to use a slur within the community, be it black, jewish, polish or whatever--but you are really crossing way over the line to intended insult and racism when you are not part of that group. |

One more thing...
Did you know that one of the women Imus insulted has a straight 4.0 average and another has a triple major? To reduce these scholar-athletes to a racist stereotype simply for entertainment is reprehensible. I'd like to hear Imus say what he said to these girls' fathers and see what reaction he gets. Do you honestly think they'd find it funny? |

The NYPost article is a very good one. And Byalip is right here, in every sense of the word. And so is DowntheStretch who has fought this one.
WHY get offended? My question is along the lines of WHY NOT, if I was the parent of one of these young women? This man is screwed, and he knows it. Like ALL shock radio, and most talking heads, he's nothing beyond his own mouthpiece. Just like Stern, Limbaugh, et al. When anyone feels they can only elevate themselves at the expense of others, sooner or later, they get their comeuppance. Imus has done this for sometime. He's simply an old, doddering, man. |

Nicely put, GRITS.
What's really sad is that the Imus Ranch is a terrific charity and the Imus Greening products, which I use, are also a good and important product. Both will suffer because of this incident. That's what racism does and that's the unfortunate price....the innocent and good suffer. |

In other words, I believe this is more of a problem than simplifying it as "a bad joke and that's life." This isn't about political correctness, nor.....who does it harm? Obviously, its harming a great number of people, not the least of which should be, and is Don Imus. |
