I think, with a show like his, you need to know the context, and you wont get it unless you watch (or listen)to that particular show.I would say each day that the people working for him call him ugly,or dried up etc.,and they (especially Imus) laugh about it.He is dead serious about some things, but this is not one of them.He is paid to entertain, and he starts getting nervous when the show isn't being funny, and he will start something crazy like this talking about players' looks.

This above be true.
But ya gotta think about who you are insulting. Most of the Girls actually go to school and really are student athletes. Its almost like picking on High School kids. The Mens basketball... you can rap them to death. I dont think Imus would have got in trouble questioning how Noah got so ugly given her mother is Miss Sweden. The Ho stuff was a bit much. Only rappers are allowed that stuff.

Although the ugly Presidents daughters on Sat. Night live was always funny. God did they slay Amy Carter. That girl was just beat up. Billy Carter was fair game... (RIP) big fella.

This is actually nothing new for this show, but the "heavy" was different in this situation. They normally have this Bernard character say these things, and then Don tells him it's inappropriate etc. He'll say "That's an unfortunate comment." Seems that the audience accepts the fact that Bernard is a racist,or is playing one.If Don says something outrageous,he almost always apologizes (says that he didn't mean that) right away.I am surprised anybody took this guy seriously. You'd be complaining a lot about this show if you take it seriously.

Phil Mushnick of the NY Post writes about this this morning. He's been on the Imus case for years.

Interesting...how this thread proved something.
When it started, someone said to not take offense.
Then later, when the same someone thought I was taking a shot at him, he took offense (nevermind the unconnected name-calling). Then to defense mode. Yada yada yada.
It only proved my point. Go back and reread this thread from the first page and you might see for yourself.
Now, back to Imus...he'll be on Sharpton's radio show. He also wants to meet the Rutgers Women's BB team to apologize "face to face".
My best guess is that if he had the opportunity to take back his words, he would. Unfortunately for him, it might be too late.
Racism and sexism are not going to go unnoticed, and certainly not unchallenged.

I'm really outraged by Imus and sick of slick racist innuendo.

I'm also sick of BET and WB giving airtime to videos, music and tv shows that have black kids calling one another ho's and ni**as. These dumb kids are basically cr*pping on 300 years of black struggle in the USA to gain respect.

What they've done is made these words and ideas mainstream. Now every white kid--or radio host, like Imus--is using those words to appear cool.

Let's be honest--it's one thing to use a slur within the community, be it black, jewish, polish or whatever--but you are really crossing way over the line to intended insult and racism when you are not part of that group.

I certainly did not take offense nor did I call anyone a name unless you count "lefty" as namecalling but if you truly are a liberal it should not be considered offensive. I merely countered your potshot at me which was based upon personal innuendo rather than based upon any topical subject. By no means was I ofnded as a matter of fact I thought it was funny that you would resort to such tactics. I stand by my original post which basically says why are these things made into bigger issues than they should be? I'm far from worried that the Rutgers womans basketball team will be scarred or offended. We spend far too much time worrying about stupidity like this. Fact is that we as a society have grown far too politically correct and the particualrs of this case are further proof of this. I am not saying that I agree or disagree with those that are offended by Imus comments but those who believe in freedom of speech and other pillars of the constitution should stand up and say that people who say stupid things have rights too.

Video of Imus on Al Sharpton's "Fire Whitey Show"

I find it ironic that Reverend Assholeface didn't call for his idol James Brown to be fired when he beat his wife not one, but three times. Hypocrite racist bastard. Pot meet kettle, Sharpton.

That's not exactly true, he has taken his own paper to task at times (specifically for running "scamdicapper" Mike Warren adds). I think his social commentary far outweighs his TV sports commentary.
