As someone who has actually met Jesse, I disagree strongly! Certainly he has made his share of mistakes, both in his personal life as well as publically, but the man has dedicated his life to a cause and while he has profited somewhat, that alone can't discredit him! Dr King trusted him...that has always been enough for me. Jesse will bring considerable clout and can get things done! Nobody is saying the owners aren't doing their part but the track owners (lets look closely at crooks like Magna for example) certainly must do more! It's easy to be critical of someone like Jesse...but he and Al Sharpton, for all their shortcomings, continue to be the social critics this culture needs.

People like him and Al Sharpton make a living off trusting people like you. Al Sharpton is worse the JJ, if that is possible. If you are looking to AS and JJ as your social critics you are really crazy. THEY ARE CON ARTISTS. I do love how they are both reverands too. Throw that word in front of anything and people buy that con. Has nothing to do with color either, Pat Roberston and Falwell are right in there with them. Nothing better than millionaire religious guys who con people out of money. My favorite though was Pat Robertson naming his racehorse Mr. Pat and then having to give it up because gambling is not for religious people. What con artists these guys are.

Not to be too political.....but has Al Sharpton apologized for his involvement in the Tawana Brawley incident yet? You know, the one where he knowingly ruined an innocent man's life in an attempt to make a name for himself.

"At the end of the day, you get some roses, but someone else gets the money," Jackson said, apparently in reference to the Kentucky Derby (gr. I). "You have to say, 'Pay me for the risk I take. Pay me for the excellent athlete I am.' "

Jackson also questioned the widely accepted status of jockeys as independent contractors. "It's a long word meaning semi-indentured servant," he said. "Contractors have contracts with benefits."

Following his meeting with Guild members, Jackson fielded questions from the media. He said his interest in jockeys is two-fold: He is intrigued by the history of black riders in the United States, and also because "in the evolution of the industry, jockeys were left behind. Of all the professional athletes who are artists that engage in high-risk activity, jockeys are the least protected."

"That's an old system," Jackson said of the independent contractor status. "These owners, (if they are involved in) other industries, their janitors aren't independent contractors. They know better. They'll do this as long as they can get away with it.
