The only time Canty is ever widley available via simulcast was during the Claiming Crown day. Now that it's gone this year, they will continue to have a tough time getting big handles.
Last year the move to 4PM starts on Saturday night did have a positive affect on handle and attendance (a lot less tracks to compete with) but...the live racing isn't very glamorous if you're not from around here.

And yes, I already have a table reserved for tomorrow at Canterbury!

Are you sure CBY is going broke? Ever since the Card Club went in, it's added to their purses significantly. I did hear '06 was a lil bit of a down year on both the Horse Racing and Card Club fronts though...

Lots of people were asked for voluntary layoffs in the past month, and now from what my sources tell me,there is more to come.
Racing will be at 4 pm permanently this year on saturday, which is great for us who play Belmont. We can get out of there before all the madness starts.
Without Claiming Crown this year, the numbers will be low again,so look for Randy to make an unpopular announcement this fall.
If they want to save money, all it would take is a phone call."Yeah Paul? This is Randy.YOU'RE FIRED!!!!!"

When I went out to make my picks today at Canterbury for the "In the $$$" and Road to KY contests, I talked to one of the regulars who said Gorg is one of the casualties, and that Maday will be doing the picks in the paddock this year. Interesting...

I know there's a lot of hate for P.A. (Paul Allen), but I like him and his race calling. I hate mono-toned announcers (including Denman), so unless your name is Battaglia, showing emotion and a difference in tone in your race calling is a good thing. Besides, they'd probably replace him with the Tampa Bay guy who subs for P.A. when P.A. does Vikings games. No thanks...

I don't think there is a lot of Hate for him.I just think people are just tired of him.We have been hearing the exact same bullshit out of him for years now and it is really old.It is especially annoying how he calls Quarter horse races. To me,the most annoying thing about him is how he walks around the place like he is some kind of superstar, yet he couldn't pick an apple off a tree, much less a horse. Most peoplle I know would just like a change. It would probably improve the handle out there, because between 5 o'clock and the start of the first race, there is a huge exodus of big money players out the door."unless your name is Battaglia"- That's Hilarious!!!

I am mostly a lurker on this site. I Have been a regular at Canterbury for many years. I play in most the contests out there. I heard that they were moving the snowmobilers to the 2nd floor this year. I guess we will find out tomorrow. Good luck to all !

Mark,
There's a sign right when you go up to the escalator on the 3rd floor that reads
"All tables on the Clubhouse Level are reserved. Please go to 2nd level for available seating".

I'm just puttin in my picks for Road to Kentucky and In the $$$ tomorrow and headin home.

richies doin well@the FG battin 20% thus far and has always put up solid numbers as a trainer for as long as ive been going to the track. lol was good partyin with him, jimmie mcmullen(trainer) and the rest of the chitown people up@cby for the CC this past summer.

canterbury leaves alot to be desired outside during day racing as it doesnt look that good, but the inside including the poker room is nice and the food is good. night racing is always a blast as they draw a younger crowd that loves to drink, i think every single time ive been to cby ive been drunkLOL!

my biggest gripe with the place.... the licensing department blows a$$!!!!
