You guys keep making excuses for these colts you seem to be emotionally attached to, there's nothing wrong with that but it doesn't help you at the betting window. Just think about the past Derby winners and how dominant they were - Smarty, Barbaro, Afleet Alex(he should have won the TC). Nobody made any excuses for these horses, they went out and dominated the field. I don't see that from Scat Daddy or Circular Quay. The jury is still out on Ravel and AG Sunday.

Attached? I never fall in love.

You don't want a horse to peek now, run lights out. If Tagg doesn't send out BIZ at the Youth, he didn't come back to good. These warm ups are to get the bankroll up. You don't need to win every race, to win the derby bumpercar event

Well, it's hard to make excuses for horses who have never lost leading up to the Derby(Smarty & Barbaro). AA, of course, didn't win the derby, and did have an excuse when he ran up the track at Oaklawn for one prep race. The jury is still out on every TC horse at this point.

The door is still open for a lot of colts, things will shake out after the 10th of March. If ScDy or CrQy can't win their next time out, and they will be up against tougher fields, their door will be closed. IMO.

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending how you see it).. The door can't close on either SD or CQ (unless they get hurt) because both have enough graded earnings to get in the Derby already.

Interesting thread. You know, I can see being a fan of, or attached -- however, my commentary was strictly from a betting perspective. With that in mind -- how could you not dis-attach yourself in a nanosecond when you saw 1-9!

Even if you were a fan, and was rooting for this colt -- at 1-9 you absolutely could have and should have bet against him. Let him go off and make you look like an idiot, but that was the right play as far as I was concerned. Those are the horses you try to beat and beat more often than not.

Yesterday's race at Oaklawn was one that demanded to be bet. Anytime you have a horse like Hard Spun taking over 60% of the money, when the best he possibly was was 30% to win, you must go in.

I bet, and I lost, but give me that scenerio five times a day and I'll make a fortune.
