I have noticed this more than a few times. I also know that when I have gone to the track with a girl, or if I go with my buddies I am a completely different person. I am much more relaxed and not into the gambling aspect of it when I am with a date.
I have yet to find a guy who can put up with my horseracing habit, so I haven't taken a date yet, haha.

I couldn't deal with my wife gambling. There's only room for one gambler in our relationship. Her god damn shopping is worse than my gambling.

My wife and I have had a deal for 34 years, She doesn't ask how much I have lost on the ponies and I don't ask how much she has spent on shoes. Funny thing is that she always knows when I have hit a good one and finds a way for me to spend it on her. I thank my lucky stars for her every day.

Yeah but men who are addicted to horses have it worse. The chances are a lot greater that you might stumble on an understanding guy, than they are for a guy to find a woman who is into or understands or tolerates this stuff.

I mean what is the male / female ratio for this group of people? 10 to 1? 20 to 1? 100 to 1?

I agree though, this is a tough habit to explain or share with a partner. It just involves so much time and focus.

I'm not sure I would agree here, as 1 in the 10, 20, to 100. Handicapping is a solitary effort 99% of the time, and when we step outside of that, we are more subject to errors, and influence.

At the same time, nor am I convinced there is quite this much in common; yet again, who knows.

Which one are you not sure of? I gave a huge range. My comment is based on my experience here and at the OTB.

Agreed that handicapping usually needs to be done in solitude, that is why I said its hard to make it work with a partner. I was just saying that I think the odds of finding a partner that understands the requirements of handicapping favor woman because I think that in the universe of people doing serious handicapping, the big majority are men. Maybe I'm wrong.

40 man where did the years go
university educated but too poor to go further came from the ghettos
Had absolutely nothing to do with horses actually was a bikie in a bikie club. until i meet my now wife, been together 11 years who was a jockey ,2 kids God help them if they follow us with the racing industry .
Love the 1 big punt $100.00 on the nose bet if i like a horse
Done 5 $1000.00 on the nose bets but man does the heart race when i have them on & that was only when i was making alot of money.
My kids come first but racing consumes my every breathing minute.
Find this the best racing site around only wish we had something like this in aussie

I just want to say that I don't see how race, gender, work ethic? has anything to do with racing. Why take somethng that brings people together and try and divide them up. Ofcourse if we were all together then the horse's odds would suffer..

I am working on a theory that will tie the Derby attendance to global warming.

1. yes, I am white
2. yes, I have a college degree
3. yes, the Ky derby was a big event in my house at a very young age
4. no, raised in Ohio, live in Rocky mtns now.
5. yes, am 40 years old.
6. actually yes, I almost never frequent the ESPN board, but one day when I did, the introduction to this site was there. I post 98 percent of the time at thoroughbrednet however as I can't get to this site from home...only at work and unfortunately I usually need to be working which expains my limited posting number.
7. I have never bet on the sport...other than individual miniscule side bets..never an official wager. I stink at it is why!!
8. I have been married 15 years and have 4 kids aged 3, 6, 9, and 11 which is another reason I don't bet regardless of my lack of skill!
