It is a shame to miss the Florida Derby, but at least we might be able to see the filly beat the boys, if that is any consolation. I was there at Oaklawn the last time that happened, but I seemed to be the only person in the crowd that didn't know that was going to happen.
 What a difference 10 days on the calendar can make. Can remember that day well. It was absolutely hot and a little uncomfortable standing in the crowd next to the rail. This morning it was 32 degrees. I almost put my house plants out on my deck yesterday. They were looking a little sickly after being inside all winter, but that likely would have been the end of them which would have been a shame. I've had one of them, a lacy leaf Philodendron for more than 40 years. Don't know how it has survived my black thumb. Probably no credit to me. Just a very hardy plant.

Right it was Althea. I didn't bet her that day. I bet Gate Dancer. I said the race occurred 10 days later than this year's edition which makes no sense. 7 days, I think. I misremember a lot of things at my advanced age, but I do remember that it was sunny and very warm that day. Perfect day for racing which looks like what we are about to get on Saturday.
