I could take a good 40 claimer run them every 3 weeks against lesser and they would win by open lengths. Songbird has had 2 outstanding races in her career a glorious career I might add. Because she beat Mo Kat and friends in Cal, at no fault of hers, and distance challenged Mia Caramia or whatever her name is in a slow poke Alabama doesnt make her a fast horse..
I f Arrogate would have won the Travers in 2:03 by 8 nobody would have been wowed. There is a difference between horses that win because of circumstance an horses that dominant excellent rivals.

Being objective isnt a slight on her amazing career and everyone would pray for a horse as good as Songbird but she just was born in the right year and faced a bunch of OK horses except on the day she had her own way and should have draw off IF she was all that

Drew off like beholder did in the pacific classic ? Funny how beholder could draw off against s bunch of older males , but not a 3 year old filly. They all had dream trips in that race except stellar wind who got left.

Fascinating turn of events........right ?
Songbird is one of the two "it" horses in training,so when she didn't fire her usual shot today it was newsworthy.
The question is obvious.........is she as good now as she was in her Championship seasons ?
Beats me.....
She looked OK via the head on,she ran straight and when Mike Smith moved her out a bit to see the other horse she wasn't going to let that one get past her.
She had her usual rear wraps on,so that was fine.
She just didn't have her game on today.
It's hard to fire a giant race every single time,no horse really can.
Probably the only one that really knows where she's at is Hollendorfer.........he doesn't miss a whole lot.
I do wonder if he had her cranked up to the gills today.....
Her next race will be more conclusive as to where she's at.
She's still a champion and near impossible to beat,so I wouldn't sell her short.

I just watched the race. I don't really get the doom and gloom. She ran about as I expected. Her being off is likely a case of the rose lenses getting cracked.

I just watched the race and I really think that if Edwin Gonazalez sent the 4 like he should've (instead of putting her in a headlock), things would've been a hell of a lot more interesting at the wire. Smith wouldn't have had the opportunity to loaf on the inside for the first 3/4's.

What could be more interesting then fending off Martini Glass who started her career in Mdn 16's and couldn't win listed stakes finishing 7th against a field of ordinary
