I agree that playing Belmont just because we will be playing the full Belmont card the following Saturday isn't very compelling. The race calendar for this coming weekend isn't all that great and surprisingly, Penn National seems to offer the best racing.
You are correct that Penn National could prove to be a challenge - the few evenings when I've looked in on their racing, I've found it to be a complete mystery. While 3 of the stakes races this Saturday are restricted to PA Breds, the other 4 could well draw horses, trainers and jockeys who normally don't visit the Harrisburg metropolitan area. That's a real plus. Bottom line is that if you would like to select Penn National, I'll be glad to concur. First post will be earlier than usual, at 3:45 PM Eastern time. |

I used the term "early" only because Penn National usually starts quite a bit later than that and runs well into the night.

Belmont has my vote but will it be raining again on the weekend along the east coast?

Ruff has suggested that we play Penn National, and I agree that it's a good choice. The entries came out today, and there are number of jockeys and trainers on the card whom you would not normally find at Penn National. The $500,000 Grade 2 Penn Mile drew a pretty solid field of three year old turf horses with entries from Pletcher, Clement, Maker, Matz, Weaver and others. The only issue I see would be whether to play the entire 11 race card, or to be kind to our hard working scorers and stop after the featured 9th race, skipping the 10th (a $15,000 maiden claimer) and the 11th (a $4,000 claimer for horses who have not won a race in 6 months). I'm leaning toward the 9 race program, but Ruff and I would be guided by your wisdom. |

Noteworthy Is That I. Ortiz / Castellano / Prado / Saez / Lopez
Consider The Venue Worthy Of Being There At Penn National ![]() I Would Prefer Playing The Entire Card But If Joly Prefers 9 ~ I Can Live With That ![]() |
