You know, Cajun and I were talking about this on the phone last night...
Bernie Sams from Claiborne was talking to my dad about Bernardini and the price set at 100k. The only thing that made sense to them was that the two biggest buyers at a sale are Coolmore and the Sheik. Since the sheik will have most of the best-bred foals by Bernardini already, where does that leave the breeders who think they're going to be guaranteed a high 6 figure foal just because of sire recognition? So the 100k was a smart move, limiting the sales effect the boycott will have on outside breeders... anywho, return to topic... |

I think Chapel Royal may be the bargain in that group. Hes reasonably priced and was very fast with a decent pedigree. He didnt win at a route, but his effort against Birdstone and inthe BC were both pretty good races.
You could do a lot worse than him at 7500 bucks, thats for sure. |

Ignoring the lack of appeal of his sire Montbrook and his broodmare sire, his female family is quite solid. Its one of the best Canadian families in the studbook with top stallion Night Shift, and Australian super-stallion Encosta de Lago and multiple Canadian champions to their credit. He should be a good outcross for a lot of mares, and you can never ignore Lalun blood that close up in a pedigree, which is harder and harder to find. Would love to see some Sadler's Wells line mares go to him. Sadler's Wells is remarkable with Lalun blood. But for the record, he's a "sit and wait" type with me. I wouldnt breed to him until he proved himself. But he's far from dull pedigree wise. |

come on, you even got my hopes up for the 2008 debut of the Boundary-Bailar baby. We all know it's going to be running up the track in Hawthorne 10K maiden claimers by the winter of her 2yo season! But thanks for the hope |

Secretariat's dam was unplaced on the track. But that female family is as solid as it comes, and Somethingroyal turned out to be a bluehen. She's by no means the only underachiever to start a legacy in the shed because of those great genes behind her... Hell, the GREAT La Troienne couldnt outrun a fat girl... but look at what she accomplished in the shed, all due to class of the female family. But, in La Troienne's defense, she was started in company well over her head. But regardles!!! |

Lion Heart's dam, raced for $5K claimers at Suffolk at one time. Lion Heart was also a seven figure 2-year-old in training buy off the basis of a sensational workout. I believe he sold for like $90K as a yearling the prior year. Chapel Royal was a $1,200,000 OBS sales topper off the basis of a strong under-tack showing. I see CR as a poor man's Lion Heart...at best. |
