G1 Florida Derby winner Materiality has been retired due to soft tissue injury sustained while training, per his connections.

FASTEST 3-YEAR-OLD in America baby! Faster than American Pharoah...How could you not send your mare to him?

Florida Derby figures are solid as a rock! Upstart has them validated.

Regardless of whether the FL Derby figs were accurate, no one can question his durability. Who wouldn't want to breed to another fast horse that couldn't make it half-way through his 3-yr-old campaign?

Different trainers have different objectives and programs. Some trainers are given liberty to develop a horse others are required to win early and get victories on books to satisfy connections. It's just the reality of game. Partnerships are great for exposing the modest owner to high quality stock, it comes at an expense to the longer term progress of the sport. The conversation on its impact on the game is a good one, positive and negatives on both sides of the coin.
