He just withdrew after a double bogey on his 11th hole. Bad back was the reason.

Dear Tiger,
Retire. Walk away. Please. You have nothing left to prove. This is too painful to watch.

Sincerely,
A huge fan.

Done. Mark it down. Will retire sometime this year. My guess is between the Open Championship and the PGA.

When I saw what he said, I figure it means retirement.

I don't think there is any chance he will retire unless he has a really bad physical ailment that he just can't get over. It doesn't sound like his back is that bad right now.

Tiger is not the kind of guy that would give up this easily. When most of these guys lose their game, they will try for 10 years or more to get it back. Nobody gives up after one bad year. Tiger won 5 times in 2013. He's only been playing bad for a short period of time and he's had excuses. He had an injury and he had to have surgery. And now he just switched coaches and made a swing change. He's about 2-3 months into his swing change. That is hardly enough time for any golfer to give up, let alone Tiger.

At this point I don't know if Tiger will ever get it back, but I don't think he will be giving up any time soon.

A few days ago I would have made the odds of Tiger retiring about 20-1. But after hearing an interview with Billy Horschel a couple of days ago, I'm not so sure. Horschel and Tiger are friends and they played together a couple of weeks ago in San Diego. Anyway, Horschel said something to the effect that it's hard for Tiger to be away from his kids and his girlfriend and if Tiger decides to retire that it would be understandable or something to that effect. After hearing Horschel say that, it sounds like there could be a chance that Tiger will retire this year. Even if that does happen, I still think there would be a good chance that Tiger would come back in a year or two. We've seen so many athletes retire and then come back. And Tiger is so competitive that he is the type that would probably get bored and try to make a comeback.

I read some surprising news. Butch Harmon took an about-face and says that he would be willing to help Tiger again on a part-time basis if Tiger asked. He says that he doesn’t think it will happen because Tiger is too proud but at least the invitation is there.

If Tiger is smart, he will jump at the opportunity. But as Butch said, he is probably too proud.

I don't think Harmon ever said he was not interested or wouldn't take Tiger back. Tiger left him because he was "part of the success" and getting some of the credit. He did the same to his first caddie Fluff.
