If their families know they're gay, then I doubt they've ever been asked by their family "when are you gunna settle down with someone?" I It isn't cherished by families. At most it's "accepted." So, why would they make a choice to do something that isn't cherished? Why would they do this?

To put it another way, if the world were reversed and same-sex couples were the norm and opposite-sex coupling was taboo, could you suddenly adapt to that and find the same sex sexually attractive because society says you should?

One of my roommates in college had a father who was gay. But he tried to do "the right thing"- he got married, had a kid and tried until my roommate was ten, when he finally came out of the closet. There was a bad divorce, and her mom never dated afterwards that I know of- I think her ability to trust anyone was permanently shattered. Expecting a gay person to suck it up and marry a straight person does not make for healthy marriages for anyone involved.
