The horses that are entered in the optional claming price might have gone through their allowance conditions, except for NC and open allowance races, Another possibility say a horse wins nw2x his next step would nw3x and so on. If the trainer thinks that his horse can't win a nw3x, that it might be to tough, he enters him back into the nw2x/optional claiming were he will be competitive. The trainer will enter the horse for claiming price whatever the claiming price is set for.
