Default A-Rod puts the P to the Dominican Republic

Three days before the start of the WBC...and possibly the Yankees for the start of the season - Going to have a cyst removed from his hip - which Girardi says they knew about last year... No WBC and possibly the beginning of the season -

Girardi comments that they have been aware of this since last season:

Who really cares about the baseball classic. It's really nothing but all-star exibition games.
But it is definitely a bad job by A-Rod and the Yanks for not taking care of the potential problem during the off season.

Nobody cares. Just hold your breath that nobody gets hurt. Ridiculous idea from the get-go.

Although, when I went home for lunch yesterday, I walked in the door and my Dad is sitting there watching as Jeter batted against the Yanks, I felt a tiny twinge of jealousy and had a fleeting thought of not returning to work.

I agree with ya Matt - the timing is ridiculous to boot, but the point is how do you go through the entire off season, knowing this had been an issue during the season last year and wait until Spring Training/WBC starts to have it looked at... I'm sure MLB fans don't care, but I'm also fairly sure that his countrymen very much give a crap and were not only counting on him, but the DR team wound up leaving someone off the roster who would have loved playing for his country - The douche is a F'n tool

I really don't see him missing any time. Supposedly he's been fine for the short time that he's been in Tampa. I personally think that this might be the handy work of Scott Boras. All of a sudden the story isn't about the steroids, it's about potential season ending surgery. And for the Yankee fans that despise A-Rod (and there are plenty of them), he's going to endear them now by gutting out the season by playing with an injury. I just don't buy any of it.

I guess I was wrong. Just a terrible job by A-Rod and the Yanks organiation for not taking care of this in the off-season.
