Default Monmouth P3 Scratch Rule (& Trivia ?)

Does anyone know what the rules are in the event of a scratch in Pick 3 at Monmouth; or where I can find that information? I tried the Monmouth web-site to no avail.

I have to play advance wagers at my local OTB tomorrow and then drive to watch the races with my Dad at his house in Arkansas as he can not make it up here this year. Before I play, I really want to know what the rules are in case of a scratch. I assume I would get the post time favorite but that is not always the case. And if I do get the post time favorite, already have the horse, and he/she wins, do I get paid twice?

If their rules call for a refund if a horse scratches before the race, does that cancel my entire ticket, or does the refund only apply to the portion of the ticket linked to the scratch horse (e.g. initial wager 5x5x6=$150, scratch in leg 1 results in complete refund, or 4x5x6=$120, ticket is alive and they refund $30?

Any help anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated,

1st leg is refund, 2nd & 3rd legs are conso's (assuming the 1st leg has run).

And with P4-6's, Substitution Rule applies.. Post Time fave replaces scratched horse...

Had an Email about this and I talked to NJSEA Racing Commission folks...

An amazing 'trivia' question answer springs from this...

What happens if there are co-favorites WITH SAME AMOUNT BET ON THEM IN WIN POOL??? Who becomes the substituted 'post time fave' under the substitution rule?

Steve Crist's 'Exotic Betting' to anyone who knows this off the top of their head.

Thanks for the quick response, Steve.

On you trivia question, what a dilemma!!

Gotta split 'em somehow. I'm gonna guess it's the co-favorite of the two, with the higher program number.

Thanks again.

And I would've guessed the horse with the lower program number.

Will be interesting to know the actual rule.

I was originally going to guess lower number, but then I thought higher number would make it less likely that an "entry" was being assigned.

One additional question, please.

Thanks so much to Phil and Steve for your assitance, but for clarification, does REFUND mean the whole ticket is refunded or only the amount linked to the scratched horse? My fear is I bet the Turf mile in leg 1, a Horse/Mare I have scratches, another one I have wins, I hit the last two legs and I am left with a complete refund rather than a winning ticket? Again thanks so much, everybody and good luck this weekend!

I bet you've got it, Brian.

But then I haven't won a bet in a week, so.....

Only the amount linked to the scratched horse... I.E. if you used 3 in the first leg and one scratched, a third of the ticket would be refunded.

I'd say they pay with either.

All good responses and one somewhat correct...

Interestingly, should co-favorites be equally bet in the win pool, the deciding factor used as the substitute post time favorite for a scratched P4/P6 use is THE HORSE CLOSEST TO THE RAIL!

By that do you mean the inside-most number - or the horse who literally breaks closest to the rail?

What if horses 1 and 5 are tied - but number one is part of an entry and is breaking from post #7?

The horse that literally breaks closest to the rail.

In your example, you'd get the 5.
