Tough place to debut a turf route horse, but you have to debut somewhere, sometime.. The 1, 8 and 5 have a big edge on the field and someone thought highly enough of the Tony Dutrow firster to pay $140k.

I apologize if you have already explained this elsewhere, but I am curious why you call him a turf horse. The pedigree looks more dirt/route to me, and I believe he posted some pretty decent works over the dirt. Obviously you and Chuck know what you're doing, and I ask just because even though I'm not involved directly with DeeTee, I always enjoy getting an inside look into how and/or why connections target specific races.
Best of luck with Redboard King at Philly next week and going forward. I hope to see him in person if he makes a trip to AP at some point this summer.

He worked much better earlier in the year on the turf and we were thinking that he may be better on the grass as a lot of Smarty Jones offspring. He has, however, really improved on the dirt the last 6 weeks and I am hoping that he can handle the dirt as well as the turf.

I am under no illusions that he will be at his best on Monday but he has trained well lately and is ready to move onto the next stage. The race will do him some good from a fitness standpoint as well, especially if we look to stretch him out and the experience of going through the paddock/post parade/ starting gate process is important going forward.

Gotcha. Well, I imagine it is nice to at least have reason to think that he might be effective on multiple surfaces.
Good luck with him today. Here's hoping he handles himself well with all of the questions that inevitably accompany a debut, and brings home a decent check for you guys in the process.

The chart has him breaking last and staying last
that isn't totally true
he had a horse or 2 beat on the back stretch
he stopped on the turn
and he seemed a little bit small
relatively speaking

My excuse, uh, observation of Redboard's race is a dead rail. The previous race's winner stayed 3 or 4 wide the entire way around the track. Any horse that dropped down to the rail faded. Granted, I think he needed the race, but I think he could have held on and beat a couple of horses if he hadn't dropped down to the rail midway on the back stretch.

I'll be interested to see how he came out of the race. Better racing next time....
