Have to say I agree with him. Twirling Candy = Toss

Give me some First Dude and a little of Setsucko in this race.

Going with AZ Warrior over Turbulent Descent in an upset.

Caracortado over Fluke.

Game On Dude to beat Gladding with Twirling Candy third. I think that if Sadler was as confident as he seems with TC, he would direct the owner of Gladding to look for a win elsewhere. TC's best crushes these though. Watch First Dude now finally get the light bulb to go off and take them wire to wire. Nah. Game On Dude for the win.

TD won, but Zazu was getting to her. I didn't think it was a bad performance from AZ considering she'd not run since the BC............

I was very impressed by Turbulent Descent here. That was a nice acceleration to move to the leaders. She got a little late at the end but was still running pretty well, Zazu was just running faster. That tactical speed is going to come in handy for Turbulent Descent this year. She's got a really bright future and this race should really set her up well for the next one. I wasn't a fan of this one before today but I am now.

Very interesting comments from Turbulent Descent's trainer, saying that 8.5f was her max and that he'd be looking to cut back in distance and that the Kentucky Oaks is not on the horizon for her. Watching it and considering her running style, I would have thought that this race would benefit her big time and set her up perfectly for 9f but he says that's not the case and what had her shortening stride was the distance and not her conditioning. I'd have to think they may end up sending her to Belmont and seeing if the one-turn can help her get 9f.

I hope Twirling Candy wins, because if any of these other mules win, they might as well stop running ten-furlong stakes other than the Derby and Classic.

Agreed.

I'd put it more at about 15-20 years since it mattered.

I now call it the Big Crap.

A lot of things have hurt this race especially...

* Dubai World Cup (first edition '96)

* The breed as a whole becoming more precocious and having a lot less stamina and durability. Few good horses really want to go 10fs unless the pace is a crawl.

* The fall off in Southern California horse racing (In the 90's - racing was unquestionably better on the So. Cal circuit than anywhere else.)

* The addition of synthetic race tracks more recently.

At least the last reason is gone.

Yeah, cause it's obvious.

Back in the late 90's, we used to argue that very point ad nauseum.

I wonder what happened in ten years to make him realize he was wrong back then.

Because of shippers - racing was a touch better at Saratoga VS Del Mar and Belmont Fall Championship VS Oak Tree ... this you would never seem to concede.

In terms of which year-round circuit was the best... obviously So. Cal by far. They completely owned the winter.

That was f'ing pathetic. I don't want to hear the term 'east coast bias' ever again. Look at what California's most prestigious race produces these days.
