Default Lady Eli in laminitis bout

David Grening , Belmont Park , 2015-07-13 - DRF Live Posted : 3 mins ago
Lady Eli has laminitis

Lady Eli has developed laminitis in her front feet, according to trainer Chad Brown.

Brown said she is in stable and guarded condition at Belmont Park.

Brown said Lady Eli stepped on a nail walking back from test barn to his barn at Belmont following her victory in July 4 Belmont Oaks.

“Despite our efforts, including a talented team of veterinarians, Lady Eli’s injury has led to her developing laminitis,” Brown said. “Thankfully, we have assembled the best possible team of veterinarians and farriers to stabilize her and assist her through these difficult times. I ask that all of her fans keep this magnificent racehorse in their prayers and hopefully she will be back on the racetrack flashing her brilliance again.”

A full story will be posted soon on drf.com

Best wishes out to the connections. Hope she fully recovers.

Ugh! Horrible news! Been there with 2 of my own and it is gut wrenching and stressful dealing with it, both were okay, but it takes a LONG time to heal, hope she survives, let alone races, poor filly, wishing the best for her and a speedy recovery, hopefully they caught it before it did damage.

After stepping on a nail?!?! Oh for God's sake. Of all the horses and of all the things to have happen. How freakish and devastating. This sport can really tear you up out of nowhere.

Yep, one of mine got it that way, stepped on a nail in the turnout and it punctured the laminae.

Just saw this. Sucks so much. She was the best turf 3-year-old (not just filly) we've had since Kitten's Joy IMO. Hope she gets through this.

Awesome discussion idea. Who you got, Lady Eli or Artie Schiller...or whoever else should be in there?

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Lady Eli, the undefeated Grade 1-winning 3-year-old filly, continues to do well in her battle against laminitis, trainer Chad Brown said Thursday.

Brown has spent the better part of the last two weeks at Belmont Park, where Lady Eli is based and is getting 24-hour care by his staff and weekly visits from a top-notch veterinary team. Brown, back in Saratoga for opening day Friday, said Thursday that doctors are “extremely pleased with her progress, and they’re cautiously optimistic she’s putting this behind her.”

Brown said the veterinary team caring for Lady Eli has established a set of goals for the filly to achieve on a weekly basis, and thus far she has met them.

“I am personally pleased with how she’s moving and her overall condition and attitude,” Brown said.

Brown said Lady Eli will remain at Belmont Park because “that’s where she is most comfortable.”

Undefeated 3-year-old filly Lady Eli, continuing her recovery from laminitis, arrived at trainer Chad Brown's shedrow at the Palm Meadows Training Center in Florida Nov. 29, and Brown is thrilled to have her.
