Freddy, why does it surprise you? While they are all about the money, they are also out to try and prove themselves the smartest people in the world, and everyone is saying that the horse doesn't 'deserve' to stand in KY or can't make it, so their giant ego's take over and they will try and prove it.

I feel for the horse, he was the 2nd best horse in America and could have won a ton of races in a row, and they are going the Royal Ascot / Arlington Million route. Its beyond ridiculous.

According to a three part interview with Perry Martin on bloodhorse.com, they wanted to breed for turf when they sent Chrome's dam to Lucky Pulpit.

Sure they did which is why they laid out that plan to get to the Derby from the minute they involved Art Sherman. http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/...an-derby-plan/ Perry was the one who sent that email. What's with the revisionist history? He wanted to win the Derby with a turf horse?

Let me expand on that....this entire move could inadvertantly turn out to be pure genius, as it will keep him from being completely exposed, and provide them, and now the breeding partners, with a convenient excuse for future failure ( "oh, he never recovered from his world tour" ).

In my opinion, Bayern is a better horse, and it's not clear there aren't others from his generation that surpassed him, not to mention this potentially strong 3YO class. He ran a couple of decent, but hardly spectacular, races to begin 2015. He might well have improved going deeper into the year with a more sane gameplan, but let's stop deluding ourselves into thinking he was ever more than a very good horse. In time, he will be remembered as a CA bred that won the Derby with some owners that did some notably goofy things.

Sorry for not being detailed.

IMO, he was the 2nd best route dirt horse in America (Shared Belief being #1)

And I forgot about Bayern and maybe even Honor Code, so I guess I'll leave it at between 2nd and 5th best dirt route horse.

Exactly why I would have thought he would not be well received as a stallion in KY. He would be 6th choice in this years derby. I figured japan would step up like they did for Sunday Silence. But comparing Sunday Silence to C Chrome is a huge reach as Chrome couldnt run a 1/8th with him. Who the heck is going to breed to him at 25k?

Honestly I didnt think they could get the same money from a Ky farm that they could in Asia, and I figured they would be all about the money.

While I think he will be drowned in UK on turf. I think he would be equally up against the best horses here on dirt as we get deeper into the season. At least he is in a good setting and getting to be a horse for a few months and I really think IF he has turf ability he will be better served in UK with turf specialists then trying it from Los Al.

he was the top 3 yo the first half for sure.
hell, if someone in ky wants to give him a shot, nothing lost to try. but i figure he'll be doing the smarty jones route soon enough.
but then, one could make that prediction and be right quite often with all these. it's always a crapshoot when you get to the barn.

You never know right Tapit was just an OK horse on track War Front was ordinary stakes type as well . Smarty Jones was a really good horse and so was Fu Peg both are ordinary stallion. He may be the next Danzig but that would be a long shot.

and he has to have support. the breeding isn't there, they don't own broodmares. whatever farm takes him will have some work to do. and even if they get good mares to him-it's a tremendous longshot.
fupeg has the breeding, confirmation and talent. but he's not passing that along. and more horses arelike him than like seattle slew!

He did win the KD and Preakness and is a really nice horse and he is a Pulpit lined stallion hardily devoid of talent but like a lot if not most stallions he will be up against. I like the the horse I hope I am wrong he is a lunch pail carrying, talented hard trying all the time.
