Consider yourself warned.
I can handle him.

I'm more worried about the minions though

Yeah, I doubt anyone on the east coast knows anything about Chinook Pass.

I remember when Phone Trick was making his second start. My friend was jonesing so bad to see him run he walked out on the first day of his job, serving ice cream at Thrifty's, so he could bet him at like 4/5.

What a great horse that was. It's a shame they never routed him.

What a great horse that was. It's a shame they never routed him.

And he actually made a few nice contributions in the shed as well. He sired winners of both Breeders Cup Juvenile races, Favorite Trick and Phone Chatter. Favorite Trick, of course, was a HOTY at 2. He sired Mazel Trick, who ran a sub-1:20 7 furlongs in the Triple Bend at Hollywood Park.

And Caller One. It's not easy for a sprinter to accumulate over $3M in a career, and of course, 2 wins in the Golden Shaheen in Dubai certainly doesn't hurt, but this guy was one serious sprinter. If he could have raced on a 6 furlong straightaway every time, which is what you get in Dubai, he may never have been beaten.

I might be wrong, because Phone Trick came on the scene in the very early years of my career in the game, but wasn't he Richard Mandella's first BIG horse?

Yeah, same here. Phone Trick came along right in the first year or so of my addiction.

I think he was Mandella's first star horse, as the only decent horse I remember him having prior to Phone Trick was Menswear.

Caller One I believe won the Dubai race once.

Mazel Trick, yeah, he was cut out for greatness.

4 for 4 on dirt.

His first start on dirt resulted in an alw win in 114.4 (6.5f) with a BSF of 104. This as a 3yo.

Next, as a 3yo as well, he won the Laz Barrera by 2 over Dixie Dot Com in 141.2 with a BSF of 112.

Off 7 months, start #3 is in the Triple Bend, the race he's most remembered for. He wins this by 5 over a pretty decent field, in 119.4. BSF 118.

Then there is his last start, the one that really stamped him for greatness in my eyes.

He won the San Diego by 6 in 140.3 for another BSF of 118. In second was the razor sharp River Keen. River Keen was coming out of a g2 win in the Bel Air (113 BSF).

In River Keen's next start he ran second to General Challenge in the Pacific Classic, and then shipped to NY where he swept the Woodward and Jockey Club Gold Cup (both 117).

I cannot think of too many horses that could have beaten Mazel Trick on dirt.

Just to confirm, I checked pedigreequery.com because I have been wrong way more times than right, and sure enough, Caller One did in fact win the Golden Shaheen twice, back-to-back, in 2001 & 2002. In that 2002 running, he and Xtra Heat came back after finishing 3-2 respectively in that brutal BC Sprint won by Squirtle Squirt to finish 1-3 (reversing their order) in the big Dubai race.

WHEW! It's no fun being embarrassed! Believe me, I know!

Yeah, you were right. I forgot about that second one.

That's okay, I'm not embarrassed at all. It's very rare that I'm wrong.
