There is a good reason for the Bowl's going after the fans that travel from cold climates. There is a reason the Alamo Bowl now always invites a big Ten team now and matches them with a Big 12 team. Huge amount of money for the city who hosts the games.
Yeah they have a contract with the conferences.

And if a playoff were instituted, it would make the Rose Bowl and all its crap look like a county fair.

Not true. I just read where Ohio State LOST money last year and that was being in the national championship game. If I can find it I will post it.

They dont have to play in the playoff to benefit. Like the NCAA basketball tourney, the conferences would all get a slice which would be divided up among all the teams. Why do you think there are 340 Division 1 basketball teams? For the tourney money. Even the **** sack conferences get a piece of the action.

Can you assure San Antonio gets a playoff game... or two? ANd that the fans show up in the hotel rooms? And visit the River Walk restaurants? Cause you got to give some money to the city...

This is part of the problem. Who gets what.

ANd of course the kids get to travel on the team.
Very important for recruiting for Ball State... "Hey, we went to a bowl game last year and had an ice sculpture contest in Toronto"

I'm sure that the City of San Antonio will survive the loss of the Alamo Bowl. It has been around for 150 years without it. Maybe they can get the Saints back. Then it can be the Alamo Bowl 8 weekends a year

So you can assure San Antonio that it will get a Big 12 and a Big 10 team and fill the Alamo Bowl, which now happens every year?

If you got that plan, you need to get it to the guys who put the Bowl's on for the various cities. I am sure the NCAA will go along once the money going to right sources.

Absolutely, that wouldn't be a problem at all. The Bowls stay intact cause the first two rounds of the playoffs occur before the Bowl season and eliminated teams can play in the bowls. If anything the Alamo Bowl might luck out and get better teams from the B10 or B12 some year if no team from those conferences make the final four and only one is selected by the other BCS bowls.

you need to submit this now to all college presidents, thats where you gotta start. It has to be good because they got to talk to convince Cannon's white guys in the nice little polyester suits. The TV is sure to follow along if you get these parties on board.

Like Chuck said, as long as the Big Ten and Pac 10 are getting paid off by the Rose Bowl they won't agree to a playoff system. The rest would fall in line if they would relent.

the cotton bowl is making a bid to be a bcs game and someone explain how the fiesta bowl got so powerful. a good sponsor and big payout?
all conferences need to play a championship game the first weekend in dec. then start a 16 team play off the following week. use the sugar, fiesta, orange, rose and cotton bowl as the last 3 rounds. rotating positions each year. conference winners get automatic bids. sec, big-10, big-12, pac-10, acc, wac, big east, c-usa, mac, mountain west. 6 @ large bids with NO Guarantees to ND. if ND don't like it don't play.
the teams not in play in the other second tier games. eliminate the lower tier games with 6-6 teams.

i like CS' idea. let's sponsor the DerbyTrail.com Bowl and play it at UofL (central location for all of us ) the 2 highest ranked teams or the best 2 teams as voted on by the members of DT..... we can't do any worse than some of the crap we've watched the last couple years.
