Default The NHL "Winter Classic"

Anybody watching this game? Not really a big hockey fan, but this looks cool!

What did they expect having an outdoor game in Buffalo, New year's Day? Sunny and 45. It's a God Damn Blizzard. You are right Bill, too bad it counts. But it does look pretty cool!

With all of the ice problems, it's going to end up as as answer to a trivia question about the longest game in history.

BTW the Hansons (Actually 2 Carlsons and a Hanson) are still yucking it up ...

I know absolutely nothing about hockey but it is pretty awesome, plus I like the Penguins jerseys alot.

Quick dumb question, is there a checking rule or can you just cream people whenever you want?

I am guessing you have to square them up and you can't smoke them in the back or anything....

I can play hockey, I just can't skate.

You can only check someone who has the puck, or very recently had it. You cannot check someone from behind into the boards. However, these rules are policed and interpreted by semi-blind dimwits, also called referees (there are two on the ice during the game).

You can check the guy with the puck only, otherwise it's interference. No checking from directly behind into the boards. The unis are really old "throwbacks" from the 70's. Now they're black and gold. I think Pittsburgh is still the only city with all pro teams using same colors.

That is a great trivia question right there.

I know the hockey teams and cities and all that good stuff, I just don't know the rules

Like Scavs grew up around hockey but never got into it, however, this is a great game to watch.

As a huge hockey fan for more years than I care to admit, this game to me is torturous to watch. Hockey is a fast paced game of speed and skill, not what you're watching now, with stoppages every 2 minutes to fix the ice.

Yes, conditions kill everything the NHL wants to highlight - speed and skill. BTW same here as a fan, NHL Center Ice subscriber for last 6 or 7 years.

This statement might ring as true, only because you've never faced my boy Brady. 94 was my off year. If you would have caught me in 93 or 95, dunzo.

O and about the game today. Pretty cool, awesome ending.
