The 2008 Manhattan was not good. The winner, Dancing Forever, was a G2 winner who went winless through the rest of his career. Out of Control finished 2nd, and he entered the race off of consecutive out of the money finishes in G1 races in CA and KY. He went winless through the rest of his career. The 3rd place finisher, Pays to Dream, entered off a win in the G2 Dixie at Pimlico and never raced again after being injured in the race.
Better Talk Now was the lone Grade I winner in the field coming in, and he was returning from a trip to Dubai and was already long in the tooth. His rabbit, Shake the Bank, lost the race by just over four lengths. There were as many subsequent $3,200 claimers (Stream of Gold) in the field as there were subsequent GI winners (Interpatation!). |

I've never been able to find video of the 2006 Just a Game stakes when Gorella came from waaaaay back to run down a loose-on-the-lead horse whose name escapes me.
That was a fun race to watch. I believe Casique won the Manhatten that year, too. |

I know I look like an idiot throwing predictions out before PPs are even out, but I love La Reinne Lionne if she goes, and Winter Memories will only up the price. JC broke horrible last race, then kept her wide all the way around the track like she was some 2/5 shot, and the horse still made a decent run.

What's not to like about Winter Memories? She's a very talented filly, from a mare who had her own substantial following, with very likeable connections.

Yes, I know she's 7 for 10, but I believe this will be a nice chance to beat her. |

I'm speaking purely from a wagering standpoint - she's perpetually overbet and I think her running style leads people to misinterpret her talent level/the trips she's had. She can obviously win Saturday and there's no doubt she's a nice horse, but there's no way she should be shorter than the likes of Hungry Island.

La Reinne Lionne is out according to Chad Brown after pulling a muscle. Zagora, a horse he should have been pointing here all along, is getting a freshening before Saratoga. Poor horse has been asked to run 4x already this year.
