Default a friend perked my interests

my friend says that now that hes retired,, hes going to get into berring rhe ponies a little more,,,
he says he knows the ins and outs of reading the form,,,but knows he needs to improve on information,,,,so ,,towatds the end of talk he asks me,, if i had to pick one thing to really understand about the form,,what would it be?
would it be beyer,,,,or speed,,, or angles,,,whatever

my choice was to understand the condiction of the race,,,,which,, i must admit
i still have trouble with,,
any others that people on here zero in on?

I think the thing I would say is that there is not one single thing that you can isolate when handicapping a race. If I had to pick one, and this goes along with what you said, I’d take a look at the class of horses that the horse has run against in the past.

After a mere 40 or 50 years, I am still trying to figure this out.

I don't think you can look at just one thing. I try to look at speed, pace, condition, class, connections, etc., but if there is one thing, I think it would be the old racetrack advice that "the pace is the race."
