Default Kids Equine Therapy Prog Needs Help

There is a organization in Greeneville, Tennessee that does equine therapy and they lost their barn along with saddles and stuff like that. People have pitched in and given them hay, but they can't continue the program right now because they can't ride. The kids work on grooming, riding, and just basic care of the horses. Here is the story we did at my TV station Sunday.

Fire destroys a historic barn at the Holston United Methodist Children's Home in Greeneville, Tennessee. The call came into fire departments around 3 Sunday morning. The fire was still burning by the afternoon.

Firefighters say the barn was fully engulfed when they arrived on scene. The barn was part of a children's equestrian therapy program.

No children or animals were hurt in the fire. Holston Home leaders say the barn is insured, but how much still remains to be answered.

Fire officials are still investigating a cause to the blaze.

Here is another story updated Monday.

Plans are in the works to rebuild a historic barn on the campus of an area home for troubled adolescents that burned to the ground on Sunday. Holston Home’s barn in Greeneville housed six horses used for equine psychotherapy.

The Home’s board decided Monday to build a temporary shelter for the horses while a more permanent structure is planned, so as not to take the horses away from the kids.

“By having the temporary shelter here, we’ll be able to continue to have the animals on sight, which means we’ll be able to continue our program,“ said Brenda Parrish-Dickmann, Chairwoman of the Board.

The Home’s board will rely on donations to fund the temporary shelter, which they hope to start building Tuesday. It also needs funds to replace 40 bicycles used by the children to get around the campus and several precious saddles that burned with the barn.

Here is info for the group.
