Default Best closer in baseball?

Right now I'd say John Papelbon for the Red Sox.

33 games....23 saves and an ERA of 0.25.
Only 1 earned run in 35 innings with 35 strikeouts.

Thats pretty impressive stuff.

I also like that Huston Street guy for Oakland and Jenks for the White Sox.

Right now, I agree totally...seems like we are witnessing a changing of the guard among the game's elite closers this year. Lidge seems to be finally coming into form but he sure has had a rocky start!

Mariano Rivera has actually looked very hittable this year. Hes no longer "Goodnight, see ya later, Yankees win" is he? It really hurts him that they have to use him so often. Like the rest of us hes not getting any younger.

Rivera has looked somewhat human this year. However, I wouldnt count him out yet. The man has been the best for about 10 years. This year it is clearly Jon Papelbon, but over the last haul, its been Mariano Rivera hands down. AND thats tough for me to say because Im a diehard Red Sox fan, but Rivera is the man.
