Default A Fantastic Quote On College Versus Pro Basketball

"The difference between college basketball and the professional game is that in college it's about the name on the front of the jersey, not the back. "

I wonder what color the sky is in this guy's world. He's so wrong that it's funny. It USED to be that way but not anymore. Over the past 15 years, the college game has changed to become little more than a place to showcase your game for the pros. With the passing of the age limit rule by the NBA, it's even more the case. Guys like Greg Oden, Kevin Durant, Michael Beasley, and Derrick Rose were NOT playing for Ohio St, Texas, Kansas St., and Memphis respectively. They were ONLY in college because David Stern said they HAD to be. Now, there are still some exceptions at the major college level (Tyler Hansborough, for example) and at the mid-major and lower levels, I'd agree with him. But not at all at the major college level.

Agree kids now a ONLY care about themselves trying to get either in NBA or Europe to play. They could care less about academics, personal development, public service. It's all about their getting gear-gifts (Ipods and stuff from tournaments) and them listening to their people instead of coaches.

The team thing went down the drain when all the kids started to leave the college scene for NBA in droves against good advice.

Here's the breakdown:

If your a stud...you spend one year in college and then your off to NBA.

If your very good...you might stick around for your soph year to develop more then your gone.

If your average major D1, you play your 3rd and 4th years and hope you get drafted but will probably end up playing in low European or Asian leagues.

And it that doesn't work out...you blame the college for not preparing you for a life outside of basketball when every academic person at the college and coach pleaded with you to go to class and prepare for a job.
