i am thrilled for shug, and for all the connections of orb. decades of hard work went into that horse, and he paid them all in spades.

so, so happy for them all. but especially shug, and of course for joel.

Good thing Rosario didn't listen to the people who told him not to come east.

Rosario had rode a great race in the Derby before ... in 2010 he was on the preposterous Make Music For Me in a race run on a similar sloppy track.

Rosario positioned Make Music For Me 28 lengths off the early pace, which was a blistering 46 flat ... he managed to finish 4th.

He got the job done with obviously a much better horse today.

They went 47 1/5 when Mine That Bird rallied from 21 lengths back to score from a long, long, long way last to win by more than 7 lengths under similar track conditions.

45 and change today, under similar track conditions, and deep closers ran 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th.

Great run from deep closing Golden Soul to finish 2nd in this race. In his last 3 starts, he was beaten 11.5 lengths in the Lecomte Stakes, followed by a 6th to 135/1 longshot I've Struck A Nerve in the Risen Star, and he was 4th last out in the Louisiana Derby.

I should've bet Orb the minute he was entered. I don't hate Shug but I've bet way too any of his horses that just don't run. I'm happy for the guy. He should give me a cut of the winnings for not betting him.

Except for the deep-closing Java's War... sigh... Had high hopes for him today.
