Manduro - best horse on the planet
 It's official From Racing Post.... World Champion accolade for mighty Manduro by PA Sport staff THE mighty Manduro claimed the title of best horse on the planet following the unveiling of the World Thoroughbred Rankings at a ceremony in London. Andre Fabre's now-retired six-year-old enjoyed a flawless 2007, during which he was unbeaten in five starts, three of them in Group 1 company over distances between 1m and 1m2f. Victory in the Prix Foy on Arc trials day at Longchamp in September saw him rocket to favouritism for the main event itself as he proved his stamina over a mile and a half. But it soon transpired he had suffered a career-ending injury and he is now part of Sheikh Mohammed's Darley breeding operation. He has been allotted a ranking of 131, some 2lb above Peter Chapple-Hyam's Derby hero Authorized, who is rated on a par with Breeders' Cup Classic winner Curlin, Dylan Thomas and Invasor. Belmont Stakes heroine Rags To Riches was rated the best filly or mare, being given a mark of 123. In the two-year-old division, Jim Bolger's unbeaten New Approach came out best on 126, although interestingly that mark puts him just 1lb in front of Fast Company. The pair clashed in the Dewhurst at Newmarket, with New Approach taking the spoils by half a length. Then trained by Brian Meehan, Fast Company will run in the Godolphin blue next season. It is perhaps also worth noting New Approach's rating is 3lb superior to that handed to Bolger's Teofilo 12 months ago. Tommy Stack's Myboycharlie is on 122, 2lb in front of Raven's Pass and Rio De La Plata. Look, it didn't write it. This list is compiled by some of the most knowledgable people around the world in this sport. If this is the list they have come up with, I'm prepared to go with what they say.
You always go on about your beloved HK horses, but truth is, most of them aren't as good as many european or american horses. Take Viva Pataca for instance. He was just a handicapper in England, yet he can win multiple Gr1 races in HK. The racing there is fantastic, don't get me wrong, it is probably the best racing package available and is certainly closing in on Europe and America, but at the moment, the horses aren't quite as good as the best available from Europe and America. Give it a few years and that will more than likely change. These rankings are compiled by people from all around the world, so don't think it's done by people who don't like racing in the Far East. You didn't rate Manduro, and that is your opinion, but he was the best horse on the planet last year, period. EDIT: why does Echelon deserve to be higher? I agree about Ramonti, but as I say, the people that have done this know FAR more than either me or you or anyone else on here.

Does he deserve it? Not sure. Was i a big fan (and am I a big Viva pataca fan?). No. They're both awfully good though. What the hell does HK have to do in the world to be considered as equal? What about Vengeance of Rain for God sake? Yeah yeah, they know, they're experts BUT I think it's disgraceful that he was left off, that Miss Andretti is soooo far down, etc. Hey, it's only my opinion though.

funny that Asiatic Boy's rating of 117 is based on his 4th in the Sussex stakes last year and not on his UAE Derby performance which certainly looked better. I was thinking about him the other night and the more i think about his summer in Europe the more of a shambles I think it was. Even thinking about running over 10f in soft ground against pretty much the best Europe has to offer was just crazy. The first priority should have been quick ground which he would have got at Ascot (which was his original plan) or Leopardstown just after the Juddmonte. They even could have waited and given him an entry in HK.
I wouldn't heavily disagree with any of the rankings.. Ramonti is the type of horse that will always get a low enough rating as he just beats opponents by enough a la Giants Causeway.

I don't think De Kock handled Asiatic Boy very well at all. Ascot would have been perfect for him, but the excuse was that they wanted more time to get him race fit, but then the excuse at Goodwood was that he still wasn't fit enough.
It was a shame we had such a wash out over the summer. I think the ratings are almost spot on from what I have seen over the last year. I think Ramonti does deserve to be one or two points higher, no matter how tight his races are, it's the horses he has beaten that impresses me. I don't think English Channel deserves the rating he has been given. Swap him and Ramonti around and I think that would be correct. Also, swap Hard Spun and Any Given Saturday around in my opinion. As I said before, these people know what they're talking about, so I'm prepared to agree with their verdict.
