Ricky Rudd. Still haven't recovered from his retirement.

I was in Charlotte with P&G in the late 80's when they got involved with Rick Hendrick and Winston Cup racing just as the popularity started to soar. We had Buddy Baker and Tim Richmond to start with, and then of course Darrell Waltrip came aboard. The P&G hospitality tent catering at many races (Charlotte, Darlington, Martinsville, N. Wilkesboro, etc.) was my responsibility during the great season Tim Richmond and Harry Hyde put together in the Folgers car in 1986. Everything you've ever heard or read about Richmond can't accurately portray how bigger than life he was.

So to answer the question, my favorite 'Winston Cup' driver of all time is the late Tim Richmond. RIP. For those that may not know, the Cole Trickle, Harry Hogge, car dealership kingpin Tim Daland (Randy Quaid) story in 'Days of Thunder' is that of Richmond, Hyde and Hendrick. Of the other drivers I got to watch and be around a bit, I'd say Harry Gant was my second favorite. Morgan Shepherd was a guy easy to root for too..
