Just a guess but because you can have muliple entries this one may have added last week. They wait till a big racing weekend and add a new entry to win the weekly prize using only horses that are running that weekend and trainers and jockeys that are most likely.

Seems true, but according to the rules you need to do this 7 days in advance of a scoring day.

My strategy for next year's RTTR contest:

Always wait until Friday evening before the start of the competition or next stage before submitting picks.

Initial horse selection for Stage 1:

Earned 2 yo Bris figs of 90-100, 2 yo Beyer figs of 85-95.
In 3yo season, Bris fig of 100+ should mean automatic inclusion.
Late Pace Bris fig of 105-110 should be the benchmark of choices.

California based horses did well in Derby in 2012(S.A. Derby top two were 1st and 5th), but the B.C. Juvenile runners all did very well during the season. Bodemeister had been in San Felipe but rerouted to Arkansas.

Picks for Stage 2:
Wait until the eve of the the four Graded preps that were this year the Wood, S.A. Derby, Bay Shore and Illinois Derby.

Picks for Stage 3:
Unless you somehow missed an emerging horse prior to Stage 2, go for the points available in the graded races of the Jerome, Lexington and Derby.
Don't give in to the mystery horse from Europe

Thanks guys! Made plenty of mistakes along the way,( including not activating I'll Have Another for the Derby in my best stable ) but managed to stumbled to the wire...

Best strategy I had was initially not including horses in my stable that were pointing to races after the 1st draft. I like your strategy suggestions Mike and always liked this contest. I hope next year they start it a little bit earlier in the year and I never seem to pick the right trainers or jockeys.
