Gander,

I have a "mini" suv. Bought it about eight years ago when money was much tighter than it is now. Chevy Tracker. But Suzuki has the Viatras which are basically the same thing. Mine has the Suzuki motor in it.

KNOCK ON WOOD. My car has about 85,000 miles on it and with the exception of having to replace tires, belts, and have my transmission serviced about 3,000 miles ago, the thing runs like a champ. Great on gas mileage too. Like 27-29 mpg.

With $5,000 down, you should be able to get your payment to where you want it.

Really depends on what kind of car you are looking for.

P.S. My husband bought a used 1992 Chevy Pickup when it was a year old. He gave it to his dad a few years back. Still on the road to this day. Has about 200,000 miles on it now and they did replace the transmission on it once, but you would never know it was as old as it is.

I have decided at this time to go real cheap and buy something just to have for 2 years max. Its an old Ford with 107K miles. My friend is selling it to me and I trust him because he is a car maniac when it comes to upkeep, he told me all the thing he has replaced in the last year and the fact that it runs great. His daughter used it to run back and forth to college, so I know it has been kept up. I dont care what kind of car I drive, I walk to work and just about everywhere else for that matter.

Funny, my mountain bike is worth more than this car. LOL!

Default Used is the Way

Find a Honda with 100k on it. Best bet.

Put $400 away a month, buy something better with it down the road.
