This just makes me sad...
Obviously any suicide is tragic, but at 71 and such an icon because of his name and Wisconsin roots.

Just read the cemetary where he killed himself was the same one his two grandkids (killed in a auto accident) were buried. Leaves behind a wife of 53 years and 3 adult children. Supposedly also had some chronic medical problem with extreme pain in his chest.
There are videos out there on Youtube of him firing up a cigarette and smoking thru a hole drilled into his helmet while racing NASCAR. Ended his life the way he lived it, anyway he wanted. RIP |

there are a million stories about this guy, a legend on the short tracks, a great character. The cigerette lighter in the car was his trademark. RIP
