Default Venue thoughts for September 18

I've been waiting to announce the venue for Saturday until entries are posted. I think that there are several possible choices but none absolutely stand out. Belmont will be featuring the Jockey Club Derby, Churchill Downs will offer the Iroquois and the Pocahontas and Woodbine will feature the Woodbine Mile. Each of those are "win and you're in" races for their respective BC race. Each track will also some additional stakes races on their undercard; the choice will come down to which one has the more interesting fields. It may end up being a somewhat arbitrary one, but I'll post the choice either late this evening or early tomorrow once I've had a chance to look at the entry lists. I'm sure it will be one of those three.

I'm not sure how excited our players would be to use a card whose final race is at 11:10 PM.

At this point, I'm inclined to go to Belmont Park for a Saturday afternoon of racing. I'm intrigued by the international flavor of both the Jockey Club Oaks and the Jockey Club Derby. Veteran Jamie Spencer is riding a horse in each race for Charley Appleby and Godolphin, Ryan Moore is riding Bolshoi Ballet for Aidan O'Brien, Andre Fabre has entered Harajuku from Group racing in France and John Velazquez is riding the well traveled Tokyo Gold for Satoshi Kobayashi. These should be very interesting handicapping puzzles. That's all I've got for now.

We all are incline to be somewhere on Saturday. Being second in command I would have taken us to Laurel Park since that's where I will be. We could have played a day/night double header with Churchill.

Digger, I hope that you enjoy your outing at Laurel. The DeFrancis Dash is usually an interesting race. Perhaps your show parlay technique will be sufficiently profitable to fund some crab cakes and a National Bo or two on the way back home. Good luck and enjoy.

Final answer: We'll have our contest at Belmont Park. First post is at 1:00 PM Eastern. However, the Points contest will end after Race 10, the Jockey Club Derby Invitational Stakes. That gives us a 10 race contest card and should finish on a high note.

In the past, Real Quiet has generously offered to score any multi leg races that include the final race for ROI Contest purposes. I'm hoping that he will be willing to do so this week as well in case anyone wants to play a Pick 6, Pick 5 or late pick 4, all of which end with race 11.

I have no objections to scoring the full card at Belmont for those who want to play the last race either straight or in exotics.

Thank you very much RQ. That means Ruffian can find one of her long shot specials in the final race as well. As for anyone playing the pick 5 or 6, you never know . . . . . . .

One reason I don't mind playing the 11th in the ROI is that it looks a whole lot better than race 1. I'll probably use it.
