Default Dehere's sweep of the three 2yo Spa Graded Stakes

While lacking a bit in the Beyer department ... the first two are visually real fun races to watch...

I was at Gulfstream for that. I believe it was the 1st race and a four horse field.

He was a true closing sprinter. He only won the Fountain of Youth because of the crazy pace and meltdown.

Was that his last race or did he have a failed comeback?

he only raced twice at three, they retired him because of a fracture.

Thanks. That makes the Fountain of Youth his final start.

You're right.. it was the first race on the Donn Handicap card.. Dehere, Ride The Rails, Senor Conquistador and Defense Witness..

Unaccounted For made his debut on that card too..

That was Dehere's final race... they had planned to bring him back at Gulfstream in 95, but things didn't work out..

It's a shame, he could have been racing with his money burning brother Defrere..

I think Dehere's final race was the FOY....not the allowance.

Defrere won his debut in the opener on Florida Derby Day the next year over a Frank Brothers horse. That was a memorable race, mostly for the ride Krone gave ( or didn't give ) to Seattle Bloke, who came back to defeat that same Brothers horse in his next start at Churchill ( that was a REALLY memorable race ).

Didn't Unaccounted For actually lose by a neck at like 8:5?

Yeah it was, I meant the FOY was Dehere's last...

Good memory.. Defrere beat Cayeli.. a half brother to Paradise Creek.. that was the day Bailey won 7 races..

Other than that Defrere holds some bad memories for me.. mainly when he came up to Belmont, I needed him to win at about 2 or 3-5 and he got blown away by Hoolie..

Unaccounted For did lose, I think by a nose.. Schulhofer had some nice 3yr olds that year..
