Default Eyam and the plague

I already knew about this town from history books, but this gives more details.
I didn't know about the smelling of sweetness being a symptom.

Wow; that was a really cool read. Thanks for posting it!

It's interesting that the plague still exists today, though it's generally not quite as deadly, while the sweating sickness completely burned itself out. I don't think they're 100 percent sure today what it was. Maybe a form of hantavirus, but no one knows for certain.

what's really sad....signs everywhere when we went on our trip, warning 'stay away from prairie dogs' because of the potential for getting plague, or bitten, rabies, whatever...take your pick. I mean, no biggie, just rodents who live in the ground, and never mind the snakes that will go into their burrows to get them-or bite you instead.
but they're so cute, and people ignore the warnings.
yep, fat lot of good a well developed brain is, eh?
