Default Early venue thoughts

Heckfire if Santa Anita is opening up, it will be nice change to go to the west coast. There's two 3YO non-graded stakes . . . fillies and colts (150k each) and being for 3YO's, ya never know who might pop up as a contender for the Derby in September.

Contender in September . . . the poetry, sometimes is just way to easy.

Thoughts?

Churchill Downs is scheduled to run on the 16th if their website is correct.

If Santa Anita resumes racing, it would provide a wonderful change of pace. Right now, I think that IF is the operative word. The most recent announcements from SA indicate that they would like to resume racing this Friday, with entries to be taken on Tuesday, but all of this is contingent upon receiving approval from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to resume racing.

Hopefully there will be more definitive information within the next 48 hours. I'm certain that discussions are continuing and that SA will play every card at its disposal to meet the County's objections or find a way to override them. Whether that is enough remains to be seen.

If that doesn't pan out, Churchill Downs might be a viable alternative. They have received the necessary approvals to resume racing this Saturday at 1:00 PM. Clearly horse racing has more political clout in Kentucky than in Southern California.

Yes, a few days will tell us more. They had stakes on Bloodhorse for Saturday at SA but nothing for CD as of today. They do show 5 stakes at CD for the 23rd.

Churchill's website also says they will start running stakes on the 23rd.

And there's always Charles Town. I'm sure Cal and Ruff can find us some music to go with West Virginia

^^^

Funny thing was we got more views on that thread than any other. Probably a lot of people just wanted to see what kind of weird music video I would put up next.

That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday

SANTA ANITA

California, Here I Come

When the wintry winds are blowing and the snow is starting in to fall,
then my eyes turn west-ward, knowing that's the place I love the best of all.
California , I've been blue, since I've been away from you.
I can't wait 'til I get going.

Even now I'm starting in to call, Oh
California, here I come right back where I started from.
Where Bowers of flowers bloom in the sun.
Each morning at dawning, birdies sing an' everything.

A sunkist miss said, "Don't be late" that's why I can hardly wait.
Open up that Golden Gate,
California here I come.

Any one who likes to wander ought to keep this saying in his mind,
"Absence makes the heart grow fonder" of the good old place you leave behind.

When you've hit the train awhile, seems you rarely see a smile;
that's why I must fly out yonder, where a frown is mighty hard to find!

"Open up that Golden Gate"

Why yes, Golden Gate Fields will be reopening on Thursday. They were able to obtain the necessary approvals from the Alameda County Health officials. That's probably not what the song was referring to.

I was a hermit even before it became trendy, but must admit I have taken hermitdom to new heights. Would like to go and visit my grandkids and kids in Little Rock, but feel certain they have not been nearly as scrupulous as myself about isolation and so would be rolling the dice. So strange how our world has changed. Close to this time last year, my son and I went to Vegas. Haven't missed going to Vegas at least once a year in the last 30+ years, but there are worse things than not going to Vegas so just have to think of new ways to entertain myself. I was so desperate for something to do yesterday, I actually did some work around my place. It's getting pretty bad, when you don't even have an excuse for further procrastination.

Tho I would not refer to myself as HERMIT...

My usual lifestyle before the pandemic was pretty much “LONER”
Preferring the company of animals to most Humans!

I have five human friends none of whom live nearby
And are busy with their own lives and activities

Mostly I share my life with

AshAvAri My Black Smoke Persian Cat
QrFuffl My Pomeranian
Layla My Horse

My groceries are delivered to my front door
I live in an area with foot paths that lead to a lake and a park

So there is no where that I NEED to go except to the Ranch to see Layla

The quarantine really has not affected my life
But my heart hurts for those who it has affected so tragically

That is a great life Ruffian that many would give their right or left or both arms for. Your love for all animals and your horses is perfect and it keeps you whole and gives you peace. You may not know it or believe it but many here probably envy you. Don't ever change, you are truly and uniquely one of a kind and that'a a good thing!!!

Monomoy Girl coming back in Race 4 at Churchill on Saturday. All the races except that one and one other have overflowing fields. I guess that makes sense with horses converging on Churchill from Louisiana, Arkansas and other places. Probably makes sense that the race she is in has fewer contenders too, if she comes back running like she has before.

Looks like LA County is going to extend stay at home orders until July. Not sure they'll be racing anytime soon.

BLOODHORSE

Despite the possibility that Los Angeles County may extend a current stay-at-home order for residents due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Santa Anita

Santa Anita has been closed since the Los Angeles County Health Department ordered a cessation of racing March 27. The Southern California track released a May 15 overnight May 12, the same day the county's Public Health Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer told the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors that "with all certainty" the lockdown will remain in place for the next three months in order to continue to combat the spread of COVID-19, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times.

"We are optimistic about running on Friday,"
Santa Anita publicity director Mike Willman said when reached by BloodHorse Tuesday afternoon. Willman added the track did not plan to issue a further statement Tuesday.

The May 15 card features nine races with a
total of 94 horses entered in the body of each race. Three horses are on the also eligible list. The card is comprised of maiden, claiming, and allowance races— including race 2, which is open to only California-bred or sired maidens, fillies, and mares—and range in purse size from $17,000 to $51,000.

Despite the publicity director's optimism, they still don't have approval to resume racing. The SA website says that "Santa Anita is continuing discussions with the LA County Health Department to resume racing at Santa Anita. In the meantime, Santa Anita has posted the Overnight for Friday, May 15th"

It appears that SA is caught in the middle of disagreement between County officials about the speed of reopening activities in LA. The article that you partially reprinted also reflects a disagreement between the Public Health Director, who favors a very slow process, and the County Supervisor, who seems to favor a more rapid relaxing of restrictions.

Hopefully there will be something more definitive later today.

Well it's looking like we'll be playing the Churchill card, but that's OK with me. I'll post the final threads later tonight or tomorrow AM.
