Tiznow pensioned..
Two-time Classic winner Tiznow, age 23, pensioned
Nicole Russo Oct 21, 2020 Tiznow, the only two-time winner of the Breeders' Cup Classic, has been pensioned from stud duty. WinStar Farm made the announcement in revealing its roster and stud fees for 2021. Tiznow, a 23-year-old son of Cee's Tizzy, won 8 of 15 career starts, earning more than $6.4 million. He earned Eclipse Award honors as Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old male in 2000 with the first of his two Classic victories, a race in which he outdueled eventual Cartier European Horse of the Year Giant's Causeway by a neck at Churchill Downs. The following year, Tiznow secured a divisional Eclipse by nosing out Sakhee in a memorable edition of the Classic at Belmont Park. Tiznow won five other graded stakes, including Grade 1 triumphs in the 2000 Super Derby and 2001 Santa Anita Handicap. The California-bred was inducted into racing's Hall of Fame in 2009. Tiznow entered stud in 2002 at WinStar Farm, and through Oct. 20, he is the sire of 90 stakes winners. His progeny earnings total more than $95.3 million. It is well within the realm of possibility for the stallion to reach milestones of 100 career stakes winners and $100 million in career earnings, as he has active runners still on the track, including rising 2-year-olds in Grade 3 winner Royal Approval and Grade 1-placed Midnight Bourbon. :: DRF BREEDING LIVE: Real-time coverage of breeding and sales He will also have additional crops coming through the pipeline. According to The Jockey Club's Report of Mares Bred, he covered 119 mares in 2019. The report for 2020, which will be his final season, is expected to be released this month. Tiznow was represented by Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner and Eclipse Award champion Folklore in his first crop, as well as Well Armed, who went on to win the Dubai World Cup. The stallion's other standouts include 2016 Breeders' Cup Mile winner Tourist, 2008 Belmont Stakes winner Da' Tara, and multiple Grade 1 winners Colonel John, Tizway, and Tough Tiz's Sis. Tiznow is also the sire of Canadian champion Bear Now; Korean champion Blue Chipper; Mexican champions Halagadora and Igor; Grade 1 winners Bullsbay, Gemologist, Morning Line, My Sweet Addiction, Sporting Chance, Strong Mandate, and Tiz Miz Sue; and Mr. Hot Stuff, a multiple Grade 1-winning steeplechaser. Tiznow has 15 sons at stud worldwide for 2020, including Tourist at WinStar. He is more strongly beginning to emerge as a broodmare sire, with runners out of his daughters including Grade 1 winners American Patriot, Come Dancing, It Tiz Well, Noble Bird, Personal Diary, and Tiz the Law.

They're not kidding with that broodmare sire influence. Folklore is the 2nd dam of Contrail, the 2020 Japanese TC winner.
