Talking Aikenite

I was at Santa Anita on Breeders Cup day and I thought he ran a "sneaky good" race since he had some trouble. He has had trouble lines in other races as well.

I like the way he runs and the pattern of his races. He had ascending Beyers into the Breeders Cup. The distance should be perfect. I'm a big "Yes, It's True" fan so I'm biased on his breeding. His works at Saratoga and Belmont (on dirt tracks) were excellent last year. He has been working well at Palm Meadows this year.

I wouldn't call Rein King a "slob" by any means. Although this is probably the most talented group of 3-yr olds to race yet this year, none of these horses ultimately scare me.

My belief is that we have not been introduced to the best 3-yr old colt of 2010 yet. And maybe that colt will even come out of the West.

Not sure why my dumbass thought this was a 1 1/8 race. I still like Litigation Risk.

I agree, Im betting him to win and keying him in a spread-spread-key-spread pick 4.... Rick V's I think will be ok and I would not be suprised to see him win, I think he's better then Todd's.

Being confused about the distance of the Holy Bull doesn't make you a dumb ass. They have been changing it almost every year for the past five years. In '05 and '06 it was 9f, then I think they shortened it for a year or two, then lengthened it out again, and now this year they have shortened it again.
Its a bit hard to keep straight.

I thought it was a very solid effort by the top 2 finishers... Jackson Bend was 4 or 5 wide around the entire trip and finished up pretty well considering the other horses that were near the pace folded up...

I am curious how the beyer figure's came back as low as they did..?

In a race at the same distance Quality Road received a 103 beyer when running :25.15, :48.3, 1:12, 1:36.33 unknown variant...

This race went :23.9, :45.9, 1:09.8, 1:36.1 with a track variant of 21...

Track was very fast today.

For starters ... the Danny L. Miller first-time-starter went 1:08 3/5ths at 6fs earlier on the card.

So variant isn't part of the equation, just how fast other horses seem to be running over the track?

I actually do not think that the track was playing abnormally fast, I think that first timer you mentioned is probably a really fast horse, he did win easily by 5. The other main track races weren't super fast either....

Having him up close early probably wasn't the best decision.

This horse was the workmate of Tahitian Warrior, who won on opening day, and was subsequently sold and is now in Dubai. I thought today's effort might have a bit more impressive in that he did face a little adversity but still kicked away. Regardless, both were solid.

Lets see ... a track record was broken by a 3yo 4th-time-starter who's only prior career win came in a mcl race at Calder.

A horse beaten 7+ lengths at Calder last time out barely won a MSW race in 1:21 and high change over a Michael Mareina trained 17/1 shot first time starter. Curlin won his debut by a city block going 7fs at GP in 1:22

A Danny L Miller trained first time starter was 1/5th of a second off of a 4 year old track record for six furlongs.

Unusual Song ... 10K N2L claimer off of 12 straight defeates ran 1:16 and change in victory.

Yeah - the track wasn't abnormally fast today.

On a track playing very fast, these guys did not come home particularly quick. That said, Tony Dutrow wasn't even pointing to this race and kind of backed into it. Jackson Bend is a very nice horse but the question surrounding both is whether or not they want to go 10 furlongs.

Stately Victor, that Ghostzapper cripple that Mike Maker has, he made several lengths up late on Winslow Homer into the teeth of extremely easy fractions in his debut at Saratoga.

Considering how awful Maker is with debuters .. and how productive he is otherwise .. that horse should have been a force.

I think he and Eightyfiveinafifty might have run the two most impressive races by any 2yo male all Saratoga meet...and both came debuting in defeat against maidens.
