Curlin to Change Silks for Derby
It looks like Curlin will change silks for the derby. Anyone know if this is true and would you really go changing silks for an undefeated horse?

Silks are registered to owners with the Jockey Club; no two owners may have the same silks (which doesn't stop some from being very similar).
If a horse is owned by two or more different registered owners, I think it is up to them to decide whose silks are used, although most times the majority (or plurality) owner gets the honor: but I don't think there is a rule about it. If the horse has a stud deal finished for the future, it usually carries the original owner's colors while it continues to race (like Secretariat racing in the Chenery colors, not Claiborne's). But again, it depends on the deal made. |

Well, he is a complete toss now.
Horses that change silks right before the Derby have rarely won the race. In fact almost every Derby winner has worn the same silks in the Derby that they did in their previous race. What a powerful angle! Put this one down next to the BCJ "jinx" as the best handicapping tools for the Derby. |

he has worn different silks for each start....midnight cry in the maiden race, jess jackson (stonestreet) in the rebel and padua in the ark. derby. now george bolton's will be worn saturday. who cares...it is not a big deal

It is a shame, because if he was using the same silks as he did in the Arkansas Derby, he may have had a chance. |

In all seriousness...it would be bad karma for the silks to change.
If you had a class and sat in the same seat all the time...and you got 100% on every test....would you want to change that seat? Regardless if it's because you studied? |
