E-F-F-E-C-T is not only grammatically appropriate in that instance, but is also almost always grammatically correct when describing a consequence (and seeing that almost every event is a consequence of some other event, this word is rarely misused and hardly ever incorrect). In this case Mawhip is describing the consequence of his leaving Lehman Brothers (he got rich on stock options).

A-F-F-E-C-T is only appropriate when someone's feelings have been triggered (such as: leaving Lehman Brothers affected him so deeply that he committed suicide). Could Mawhip have used "affect" in this instance? Sure... it would work. Does the fact the he could have used it make your correction valid? No.

You should feel like a moron.

However, in your defense Mawhip did say "effect me" when he should have more properly stated "had the effect of". Perhaps: Lehman Brothers is not hiring, but I left before the collapse and sold all my stock before it tanked, which had the effect of generating enormous wealth for my family.
All grammer aside, I was just responding to the attempted lowball thrown by Drugs. But like so often with Drugs, he was wrong. He just tries to look smart after the fact as was the case with the Archarcharch overlay. Had he been so smart, he would have told us this BEFORE the race.

You can't possibly be inferring that it will effect or affect the price. Please don't be telling me that. If so, that is very sad.

DrugS gave us Vale of York before the BC Juvenile. Folks, there is no need to get greedy.

You have to be able to forecast the odds correctly to determine that.

Had I posted "a pick" before the race .... I would have "picked" Elite Alex (who was 8/1 on the ML) versus Archarcharch (who was 12/1 on the ML)

That's really not even the reason why I don't bother posting picks .... it's because of the ankle-biting I put up with afterwards when one of them losses.

I see. You don't offer these words of wisdom because you don't know the odds. I'm assuming then you are too busy with 25 minutes to post to come on here and state your opinions before the race yet you have the time to find a chart from the 1896 Gazelle Stakes and cut and paste that to show how clever you are.

Come on Drugs. Don't you think you will be criticsized more for your rampant redboarding than being wrong. Everybody is wrong.

And talked about Furthest Land being a great play.

He at the very least talks about why horses are good plays / bad plays with details.

Unlike Lehman Brothers - I don't get paid one cent to post here. I do it for my own pleasure.

I post that type of stuff early in the morning or on Monday's and Tuesday's - if you haven't noticed.

Here's an old story I read though ....

Justin is right. Although, that was a pretty slick reversal attempt by rare bog. Kudos.

Why does "affect" have to be in regards to feeling? That is pretty funny.

It's not my problem she didn't use it as a noun (a fact also noted at the bottom of my post). Your original issue was with her word choice, not her usage.

Nice try to change your direction midstream. You need a new oar.
Here is the original sentence:

Lehman Brothers is not hiring but I left before the collapse so it didn't really effect me other than the fact that I sold all my stock before it tanked.

"....it didn't really EFFECT me...."

Verb.

Now, here are a bunch of websites showing that the correct word in that situation is AFFECT.
